Prague In 1 Day

prague

These one-day travel series are getting more and more exciting. Not only do they cover most of the important places, they also allow time for indulgence at places that are definitely worthwhile. With so much to see, I was surprised as to how I even found time to sneak in two coffee sessions before dinner. In this single post, we will be exploring 20 different places that unite to answer this question below:

We’ve heard the word ‘bohemian’ a hundred times, but where does it come from and what does it actually mean?

What to Love About Prague

prague

A gothic city full of tales, myths and gory legends, Prague is as mysterious as it is quaint. If you fancy telling unique a story when you return from your travels, Prague is highly recommended for you. Unlike other overrated European cities, here you get the best of both worlds – European qualities and century-old characteristics embedded between statues, buildings or even public transports. Cruising along Danube River while admiring the old beauty that is Charles Bridge; be it solo or with a partner is just as romantic.

If you have to exchange currency in Prague, it is most advisable to do so here, as seen below. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

In the morning (start early):

1. Cruise along Danube River

prague

It was at this moment during the river cruise when my heart knew É’s ‘the one’ because it only thought of him and longed for no other. We hung tightly on the phone at two very far ends half way across the globe, but somehow the magic of this river made up for his absence; the pain distance caused made the languid ride even more romantic than it already is. Yet somehow by hearing the way he laughed with all his heart almost felt like he was by my side all the time.

{The cruise I chose came with a free drink and in my travel books there is no right or wrong time for a glass of good wine, especially when it comes with such a great view}

2. Get the creeps at Josefov, the Prague Jewish Quarter

prague

While the walk around the ghetto is free, to enter this quarter comes with a fee and the queue is long. Either buy your tickets in advance or just peep through the creepy gates like I did if you only have one day.

3. Discover the many eerie statues hidden between quaint buildings

prague

Because I’ve seriously never seen a town quite like this before. Look:

Walk through this building and you’ll find the Museum of Communism and a random Macca’s at your side.

4. Walk along the cobbled pedestrian streets of Prague

prague

P.S. Wear comfortable shoes.

5. Take a photo of / with the grand Prague Municipal House

prague

Or watch an orchestra here at night if you missed it at Vienna, a must-do experience while traveling Europe’s ‘golden triangle’.

In the afternoon:

6. Grab a bite

pragueprague

Thing is, I only had a poppy seed Rugelach, a popular Jewish pastry amongst the locals.

7. Visit the gothic Prašná Brána a.k.a. Powder Tower / Powder Gate

prague

{Sexc Neutrals fashion post here}

8. Watch performance art for free at Rudolfinum a.k.a. Czech Philharmonic

pragueprague

This Neo-Renaissance building is one of the most valuable architectural monuments in Prague. Having to seek shelter here from the rain felt almost like an honor!

9. Make a wish on Charles Bridge

pragueprague

Did you know?

Charles Bridge is ornamented with statues to touch. The main thing to look for here is the statue of St. John Nepomuk (above). At the bottom of the statue you will see two gold spots polished by human touches:

prague

Touch the fallen priest for good luck and if you’d like to return to Prague in future (hell yeah)!

prague

Touch the cross and make a wish for it to come true in a year and a day. I personally don’t quite remember the wish I made, but I have a feeling that it is the one that came true.

prague

Here on this dark fantasy bridge I made friends with an American guy named John, who helped me take this picture. John happens to be a writer whose girlfriend is Malaysian, and we soon found out that she personally knows my lecturer, Jo Kukathas. What a small world!

Having Malaysia in common, we walked around town together chatting away about different authors, our most interesting reads, expressing favors on writing styles and soon found ourselves taking a picturesque uphill journey.

10. Notice your jaw drop as you look up the magnificent St. Vitus Cathedral

prague

Gothic architecture at its best.

11. Marvel at Prague Castle’s high gardens

prague
prague

Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world!

12. Touch the golden penis of the adolescent boy near the Prague Castle at Golden Lane

prague

For couples who dream of getting pregnant, this is for you.

13. Take a photo with the John Lennon Wall as the backdrop

prague

{“What has John Lennon gotta do with Prague?”}

pragueprague

14. Taste (probably) the best honey cake in the world at John Lennon Pub

Czech honey cake + tasty beer = a dreamy-licious combination.

15. Grab a coffee at Café Louvre

prague
prague

Albert Einstein, Otto Pick, Kafka and many famous names dined here before. Nuff’ said.

16. Take a wicked picture with the Dancing House

pragueprague

In the evening:

17. Relax at Prague’s Old Town Square

prague

The gloomy day was compensated by the colors of bubbles dancing in the sky all over this goth fairytale city.

{I wish I knew how the bell ended up at such an odd spot}

18. Have juicy and tender roast meat for dinner with both tourists and locals by the square

praguepragueprague

Unfortunately, you DO have to go from one stall to another beforehand to check the prices of these meat as they can vary from the ground to heaven.

19. Visit Franz Kafka’s baroque “The House at the Minute”

prague

If you have an extra day in Prague, go for a trip inside.

20. Watch the Astronomical Clock sing

prague

Last but not least, I’d say you HAVE to watch this medieval clock performs its magic at least once. Watching the mechanical characters dance, counting chimes with the massive crowd; from their echo you feel a kind of aura that moves you and makes you believe in more than just reality.

And that’s how I know what Bohemian looks like.
