Looking for a satisfying, hearty meal in a busy city like Istanbul can be tough, especially when there are so many restaurants and stalls selling the same thing: kebab.
Shortly after only 3 days in Turkey, my stomach started repulsing at the idea of skewered meat and giant piles of rice as side. Haqqi, a huge Egyptian man who owns a tour agency in the country, convinced us that Oz Urfa Restaurant in Taksim is to be made an exception. To be exceptional is a big word. One too big to miss . . .
{Lahmacun memang cun!}
{Deeply marinated}
{Hardworking doughs}
{Must Have: Oz Urfa’s unique selling point}
{Hungry and impatient: Getting my hands on one!}
{TIP: Mention to the owner that you got this recommendation from Haqqi to receive special treatment, like this starter we got for free}
{Ken the pilot and I, with secret ambitions to be gluttons that night}
{Dream kebab – the meat juicy and tender, vegetables nicely charred, nothing was too oily; leaving stomachs happy even after a huge meal}
{MUST HAVE DESSERT: Künefe}
{Turkish guy who insisted on taking a picture with me or he wouldn’t let me go home}
The verdict? We can’t agree more that this restaurant recommendation, should come stamped with the word “MUST”.
