The Best and Most Authentic Paella in KL.

So. For half a decade I’ve been searching high and low for a place in Malaysia that serves tasty, authentic paella but nothing comes close to the one I traveled to Valencia for. Honestly at one point, I gave up. I just stuck to tapas – until the Embassy of Spain Kuala Lumpur introduced me to Marta’s Kitchen – I knew I’m in for something good.

What started on a small grass patch is now a 100% Instagram-worthy restaurant perfect for family outings, if not for a great Spanish gastronomy adventure with best friends, open 7 days a week with live band performances every Friday.

Serving 18, 00 paellas a month, 180 paellas a weekend, 700 tapas a week, feeding 250 hungry tummies per night, Marta’s motto is to not serve her customers what she won’t serve her kids, so you can imagine how fresh her food is! She goes to the market 3 times a week, plus her suppliers are her friends too, who supply her the best they can give. That’s how lady boss can ensure she only puts on table the best products only.

Real-food tapas . . .

Let’s start by talking about the tapas. Here’s what to love about this place – Marta serves real food, and that means ingredients can speak for themselves here. The moment you bite into a croquette you can recognise the flavours; authentic taste, no powder mixtures. That is the spirit of this Marta’s Kitchen.

Hard working paellas . . .

Marta-13

Home-cooking at its best: Paellas here are cooked with broth that is separately boiled for HOURS before the seafood and vegetables go in. My parents are hooked and I can’t get my mind off it ever since I had my first spoon-full. There are 3 types of paella served here. Don’t be fooled if you don’t see any squids in the Squid Ink Paella. Therein lies 200g of squid per portion, blended into a sofrito of chopped onion and peppers for 2 hours by 5 guys! These are the things you don’t see behind the scenes.

Traditional modern desserts . . .

Guess the most expensive equipment in Marta’s Kitchen – the churros machine! Desserts here are traditional recipes made using modern kitchen equipments; which means the taste is preserved but the quality improved. Most times you’ve gotta invest to get bigger returns – I must say that’s very wise of Marta!
