Marrying a foreigner in a country like Malaysia has its pros and cons. One good example is the fact that we can’t perform our registry anywhere but at the ever-dull Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN). While that means we have to sacrifice a bit of my whimsical romantic dream, in a way it is a blessing in disguise as it also discounts a lot of preparations; which makes things a lot easier and money saving too.
Not having the chance to pick a gorgeous venue means we automatically get to save on paying venue rental and decorations (not to forget the tons of fresh flowers which usually cost a bomb). The tough part though, was how to make the ceremony look less tacky as possible, as the government office is graced with dust-coated plastic flowers and purple washed walls 365 days a year!
In this post I’m sharing with you a look into our signing ceremony. The key words I decided to keep close for the event are ‘simplicity’ and ‘intimacy’. We had only our closest family members over, a bridesmaid and a groomsman. The itinerary consisted of 3 parts – the signing, a grand chinese lunch (I insisted for chinese as my in-laws are Europeans), followed by a short and sweet cake cutting lineup at our own cosy home; which I will share in the next wedding cinspirations series.
