i faithfully wrote a separate diary entry specially on Capri, but decidedly cited this sweet fragment out. After reading the entire book of The Story of San Michele by Axel Munthe, written solely on this villa we are about to tour, i must say that to describe the author in a line or two would be too meagre for a heart so big. (Munthe was the doctor who built this villa with his own two hands for years.)
Standing at the end of an enchanted alley with the tip of our noses facing a tall white brick wall saying:
{we knew we had arrived at our searched destination}
{photo: Axel Munthe, the poor rich doctor when he was young}
{a.k.a. The Animal Lover. Munthe owned a baboon named Billy and had a special love for birds}
{guests are greeted by this Pompeiian mosaic floor of a skeleton holding a jug of water in one hand and wine in another; which is a symbol to enjoy life to moderation yet still to its fullest, while there is still time}
{welcome, to The Dining Room}
{The Kitchen}
{The Loggia – this doc surely is an architect too!}
{The Bedroom; which i find truly fascinating to imagine Munthe actually sleeping on that red bed i am eyeing right now}
{The Studio. and Medusa’s head}
{more cosy corners}
{The Garden, offering splendid panoramic views; which you’re about to see below: }
{p.a.r.a.d.i.s.i.c.a.l}
{like a boss king}
{can your garden balcony beat this? 😆 }
{A Rustic Villa by the Sea {and Tiberius’s ‘rubbish’)}
{the in-house church where Munthe prays, plays the piano, gets inspirations, and a peace of mind}
{the creme de la creme of this tour, is this}
{The Sphinx}
{at any given time, this sphinx is enjoying a better view than we are}
{don’t forget to touch it’s a** and make a wish!}
{two of my favorite shots from the spot i was ‘championing’}
{and more the the world’s beauty we often forget exist}
{getting lost and found on our way out of The Garden}
{Cafe Casa Oliv – arguably the BEST place in the world to have an espresso, wouldn’t you agree?}
It seems hard to believe this was real, and that i was there; absorbed in a world of imagination tainted rose, breathing in a landscape – so flare, so robust and alive in my memory it all almost comes close to bare; but who knew that memory could taste so sweet, till once precious moments lose their fare? And if this sphinx was real i my wish would reveal, in a fashion dreams come true with no challenges concealed.
