Tsukiji Fish Market is definitely a must-visit when traveling Tokyo. Whether you’re there for the market or a giant bowl of maguro don, you’re IN for a helluva experience. Here I’ve logged mine for you, so just sit back and enjoy the virtual visit!

{First things first: Watch out for these machines because as clumsy as they look, they hustle around the market fast when operated by the busy fishmongers}

{I couldn’t help wondering how often I’d be trying out new seafood recipes in my kitchen if I were to live in Tokyo. Seriously}

{Playing make believe as a Japanese aunty turns out to be quite fun and therapeutic}

{Fat scallops}

{Blooming flower-like octopuses like… WOW}

{Tobiko, larger than anyone else’s business}

{Can’t stop picking on my favorites, yet can’t buy them}

{HUGE, red-blooded cockles}

{This selection is my favorite kind of seafood category}

Now it’s all about the tuna. I call this, the Tuna Mania section. You may keep your eyes big, but the tuna will still be bigger WTF.

{I mean, just look at that}

IMG_7003

{Never felt such a strong longing to buy raw tuna before. You’ll get what I mean when you get there}

After all that seeing, it’s time to devour the real thing.

There are countless shops right outside the market serving more or less the same dishes but I chose this one, looking like that. Somehow I felt a connection with it in particular. After trying it out, I highly recommend you to try the same too! I can’t read Japanese, hence you may find its name in the picture above.

P.S. Be prepared to find long winding queues in front of each restaurant.

{Travel smart: Scan through the loose menus displayed outside while queueing}

{Inside: This quirky old man you see on the left speak more languages than you can count; instantly warming up any tourist’s visit to prep them for a hearty breakfast ahead}

{Perk up your appetite with a little pickle}

{GET THE MAGURO DON NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!!!!!}

IMG_7047

{Top up with assorted seafood later if you like, but GET THE MAGURO DON BEFOREHAND}
