Many kilograms less ago, a gender reveal party with guessing games, beautiful big balloons & surprise cake was something I (seriously) planned for. But I learned earlier the lesson that comes with childbirth that is to be flexible with desires.
Our doctor accidentally announced our little secret before news reaches the baker because her nurse had sealed the final result (pink) but not the section for Y Chromosome Material (brown, that I covered), which means one could still tell. 😓
My mum who was honored the baker’s task was to be the first to open the envelope & bake a blue or pink cake according to the result to surprise us, amongst other guests.
Since the ideal was ruined & É might just burst with excitement to share the news with our families, we went with his plan to do the announcement on an intimate occasion at home with direct family members. A video call invitation was sent & a date set in place. 😊
É cooked up a delicious Portuguese lunch of Bulhão Pato clams & octopus rice, while my mum brought gender neutral cupcakes for dessert nevertheless. A long, lazy sobremesa session grazing along our dining table spread was necessary as we waited for ‘the sun to reach Portugal’.
At around 3 p.m., the reveal began!
Blue or pink, what do you think?
