You may think a girl like me would get a rabbit or a pup as a pet. But no! Ching inspired me to get a hedgehog instead. ^^

Honestly, I love rabbits but I’ve also come to know that they shit heaps often, therefor they stink despite their cuteness. I don’t want that.

A puppy is something I’ve been dying to get. However, my lifestyle and living place both don’t suite dogs at all MLIA. )=

When I saw Ching’s picture of her Sporky, I fell in love at first sight with the beautiful creature. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have thought of getting myself this exotic mammal.

On my way to get my very first second pet. My first was a crab named Crabster. Let’s not talk about him. Damn tragic kena kon then die.

My hedgehog is a female. She has the most beautiful facial features amongst the other hedgies. The fairest too; which is a good thing because I like albino hedgehogs but am terrified of their red eyes! This one that I picked is almost as fair and has normal eyes. @@

Speaking about eyes, she has soft, brown, sad looking ones…

Hedgehog names

Because she is so fair, the name Snow White crossed my mind. But that is not original, so I let it slip.

Then Cotton came up because despite being a living durian, my hedgehog is very tame. Plus, this name could be ironic.

Clara suggested Pineapple but that’s too long to call. So I thought maybe Pinball, but that doesn’t ‘look’ like her. Maybe if I get a male one one day that could work.

Lastly, Carpet crossed my mind. I thought maybe I was just being silly and too desperate for a name so I didn’t say it to anyone. Surprisingly, 2 other different people thought of the name “Carpet” too!!! The best thing is, they don’t know each other~

There must be a reason how 3 random people came up with 1 idea so there you go; that’s how my hedgie got her name, Carpet. (:

I hope your liking for this animal will grow as I share with you my process of learning about Carpet from time to time.

There are 6 basic things you need when it comes to hedgies.

1. Space

Minimum space 18 x 24 inches needed.

They are creatures with Claustrophobia; I’m just joking, but they really do need space or they will become depress. Plus, without space to move around, your hedgehog will become FAT.

They are nocturnal animals, and there’s a reason why they are called hogs = pigs. Eat sleep eat sleep -_____-”

2. CLEAN air

3. Shelter

This is very, very, very important. Hedgies need to feel warm & safe. Mine doesn’t have a shelter yet because the pet shop ran out of em’.

Therefor, every time I take Carpet out, she will actively sniffs around until she finds a dark corner. And poops there too. T_____T

REMEMBER to put a thin layer of pine/wood chips in the box as the bedding. This is better than corn cobs as it absorbs the pee. This only costs RM7.90 for a packet and you can use it for monthsss. Membership got 5 – 10% discount.

4. Water

Not pipe water but the water you would drink too, thank you very much.

5. Low fat food

I am SERIOUS – LOW FAT!

I’m giving Carpet cat food for the time being because she had been fed with this in the pet shop all along and I don’t wanna give her so many shocks. The change in habitat must’ve been too much for her already.

Mind you what smells is the food; not the animal! I’m gonna slowly train Carpet to eat low fat yogurt (hedgies love em’!), green leafy vegs (no cabbages please it must be literally GREEN), freshly chopped fruits (sounds like my diet plan FML =.=)

6. Stimulus

Every living thing needs something to do. Without any toy – a tube, box, or ball, hedgies can become miserable.

I always give her human touch. LOL – Must sayang-sayang the fler! The only way for it to recognize you is by remembering your smell. So if you constantly change perfumes, it would be harder for your hedgie to catch your scent.

I have many posts drafted out re:Carpet and you’ll love em’~ Sharing something so cute and lovely must be a good thing. Maybe in the end of the day you’ll all get a hedgehog too and we can have a hedgehog party!!! XD

Today’s Hedgie Story

I woke up today and Carpet was out of sight. She wasn’t in her box anymore! I looked all over the suite and I couldn’t find her for the 3rd time already. And so I was an hour late to work and I don’t know if she left any poo poo anywhere FML x 10 =.=”

But the good thing is, this shows that Carpet is more happy and comfortable in her new home with me. I love her so much, so much I could cry. She’s too cute to be true. <3
