John

It was raining heavily and the thunder went crazy last Sunday. It was just a week ago but to me, it felt like a month already.

This space is slowly begin to sound like a list of unfinished tasks from previous meeting minutes. Usually bad luck comes and goes, but mine can just never be dead and gone.

I could break down and cry but I’ve done that so much it clearly doesn’t help fix anything. I didn’t even feel better.

For some reasons, my besties are just so busy with work and relationships and problems I can’t even bare to bother anyone else but my own reflection in the mirror.

See this couch? Looks cosy ain’t it? That’s what I thought. But it always deceives me. Everytime I carry Disney and sits on it, within less than half an hour my back bone hurts.

Which means, all these weird sitting positions you read on people’s Tweet that sounds damn cool are just bullshit. No offense tho; I do that too. Until my backbone aches and I feel stupid after being cheated by the damn chair.

Same goes to the bed. But I’m still doing it. AH, MLIA! (my life is average)

I have a point here but (URGH!) its not meant to be brought across clearly. If I start to connect the dots for you, I would offend or even hurt a few people close to me.

Frustrated, I went to steam some fish.

So basically, this was my lunner (lunch + dinner).

You eat like this 3 days in a row you gerenti loose weight one. Janji just this 1 meal per day la.

  • Porridge + some yellow beans
  • Non oily tasty steam fish
  • Veg and a herbal tea egg

Compare this to a plate of Nasi Goreng Belacan, or some random fast food meal set… They all make you feel good, but after a while, if you begin to feel constipated, bloated, or basically, F-A-T; go on a diet. And maybe you can try what I do. (:

This fish fillet has a name. It is a he and his name is John. Full name? John Snapper. So I think he is Caucasian.

Mum reminds us to kelar the fella. Why? So the sauce can penetrate better into the flesh and it definitely won’t taste fishy later.

Remember to also arrange some freshly sliced ginger pieces beneath. (IMP!) Ginger helps remove Mr John’s “body odor“.

These are the ingredients to steam our friend nice & sweet.

The 1st one: Teo Chew style steam John.

Damn easy. I don’t have to do anything, cuz mum mixed all the seasoning for me and sealed it into a packet already. Just like cooking Maggi. Ha ha!! Got label some more.

It comes together with a packet of kiam chai, cherry tomatoes, and sliced mushrooms. Add some chili padi too, please!!! I love it HOT!

DSC08425

Steam for ONLY 10 minutes. So this is one style.

Style 2: Cantonese style steam John.

The ingredients.

Pour the sauce (the right ratio of soy sauce, sugar & water) and steam for 10 minutes:

Then you’re ready to go! ;)

Don’t forget to apply some chinese wine on your fish! It’s like perfume for us while ginger, is the deodorant. Don’t steam for more than 10 minutes or you’ll ruin the texture of John’s flesh.

Okie okie??

Sauce wise, there are so many kinds. Mum gave me the breakdown but its all written in my recipe book. You can use any types of flavour you like.

Last but not least, I hope this post manage to give you some simple tips to avoid your steam fish smelling / tasting fishy! Good luck lovelings and Happy Sunday~ ^^

i absolutely love steamed fish!!! that fish is a red snapper, “ang chor” in hokkien, “hong2 zhao3″ in mandarin. i caught one during my deep-sea fishing expedition.

your mom should mass-produce her sauces and sell it home-food deprived malaysian chinese kids who are studying abroad or anywhere else for that matter. :)

yum.. steam fish is usually good for ocean caught fish.

however as for your bad back, you should always flip and turn the bed every 3-6 months to allow the springs and compounds to recover. that way, you will have better support and you will sleep well, feel better because of it.
